How to Choose a Fatbike

If you roll on popular routes, you often find people who are into something that looks like a mountain bike but with big, fat tires. This is a Fatbike.

These animals are more passable and handle maneuvers that ordinary bikes would never handle.

Originally the Fatbike was designed for skiing in the snow, but it turned out to be too tough for the teeth. This giant can fly over deep sand, sticky dirt, smooth ice, and picturesque rocks.

Benefits of Fatbikes

The pleasure of using a bicycle is not only the possibility of a quick descent from the mountain. Huge wheels with a size of 26 x 4 inches allow you to experience an unforgettable adventure. Discover new places and views and to come closer to a new generation of race.

With a Fatbike, you can carry a large amount of equipment on a normal, easy bike ride thanks to the wide and stable wheelbase.

Fatbike care

Fatbike for extreme driving. Due to the purpose, all components responsible for the tasks assigned to them are fully used.

Therefore, after a walk, especially after a beach trip, it is worthwhile to arrange the washing with cold water.

The Weels

Fatbike Wheels

Fatbike has some unique features that set it apart from ordinary mountain bikes. The main feature that everyone pays attention to is the huge 26 x 4-inch tires. This allows you to drive through all types of terrain.

The Fatbike also has very wide rims and bushes for big tires and treads. Wheels of this size significantly increase the overall weight of the bicycle, so manufacturers often remove excess material (hence the blistering effect on the inside of the rim) and the huge tread design allows cyclists not to fall into soft ground and get stuck.

If the situation gets more complicated, it’s enough to just let some air out of the tires (they can even drive with a tire pressure of 10 PSI).

The Frame

The Fatbike frame looks at first glance like a normal mountain bike, but there are some unique features.

Most obvious is the wheelbase, which offers space for large, wide wheels and tires thanks to a modified rear triangle and front fork.

The presence of a wide rear triangle and a front fork in the construction of a fat bike means that conventional rim brakes are not suitable for stopping fast moving wheels with a large mass, which is why the use of disc brakes is mandatory.

Normally, fat bikes use a low gear to maintain traction on wheels with different surfaces, especially those as complex as dirt, snow or sand.

The low gear also allows the cyclist to easily move large wheels and tires, ensuring a smooth ride.

Where should I drive?

Respect the dunes! Coastal areas are sometimes classified as national parks. Therefore, familiarize yourself with local regulations when selecting a location.

In nature, try following the given routes to protect the surrounding vegetation. 4-inch tires can cause a lot of chaos.
